turning centres with Y-axis machining
The benefits of a Y-axis rotary tool turret on a turning centre are to process the following operations in the same set-up/part holding:

- milling a keyway on the outside diameter of a part using the Y-axis to fully control the keyway width in the process (without being dependant on the accurate milling tool diameter without Y-axis keyway milling)

- milling/drilling/tapping off-centre patterns/holes on the outside diameter of a part

- accurately milling a flat / flat bottom pocket on the outside diameter of a part - including square/hex milling on the part face - without leaving a mark in the middle of a flat (where C-axis milling reverses direction)

- thread milling perpendicular to the outside diameter of a part

- Y-axis parting at 3 times higher feedrate compared with conventional X-axis parting:

offers two types of Y-axis rotary tool turret designs on its turning centres - the dual slide virtual and the single slide orthogonal type.

This is what the dual slide wedge type virtual Y-axis construction (as offered by most turning centre manufacturers) looks like:

You can clearly see the dual slide wedge type virtual Y-axis movements at 4:05 and onwards in the following LTC-200MY video:

This is what the single slide orthogonal Y-axis construction - with the Y-axis perpendicular to the X-axis - looks like:

The single slide orthogonal Y-axis design is supplied on the following Leadwell turning centre models (click on each model to get your brochure):
as you can see on the Leadwell LTC-25iSMY turning centre with a Y-axis rotary tool turret and left + right C-axis turning spindles:
and on the Leadwell T-7T2SMY turning centre with upper + lower rotary tool turrets and left + right C-axis turning spindles:
and on the Leadwell TM-1700 turning/milling centre with a B-axis swivel turning/milling head, tool changer and right turning spindle option:
